        Holding Tank Program

        General Information

The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Water Pollution Control, develops the following holding tank general permits to allow for the proper onsite collection and temporary storage of domestic sewage from commerical activities.

GNEVTHT09 - Temporary Holding Tanks - These systems would only collect domestic sewage from temporary commercial operations such as mining and geothermal exploration; wastewater would then be transferred for treatment and disposal. The proposed permit would be valid for a period of 180 days; renewals would be granted at the Division's discretion.

GNEVPHT09 - Permanent Holding Tanks - These systems would only collect domestic sewage from permanent commercial operations where, due to remote nature of the locations, standard domestic sewage treatments methods along with sub-subsurface disposal can not be implemented in a practical way. Wastewater would then be transferred for treatment and disposal.

Holding tanks may only be approved for limited duration events for construction projects such as night watchman's trailer, contractors shack, etc.; or a holding tank under the control of a city or other legal entity approved for temporary use. Holding tanks may not be used to service a permanent dwelling, permanent structure or recreational vehicles (RV). Other uses may be considered on a site specific - case by case basis.

User Instructions: We suggest users read the fact sheet and the general permit listed below and related information to determine if your activity requires a Holding Tank General permit.

If you are subject to holding tank permitting requirements, please fill out the appropriate holding tank application in order to submit plans and seek approval to construct and operate a holding tank. When construction has taken place, you may seek coverage under the corresponding general holding tank permit by completing the corresponding Notice of Intent (NOI) form (see link below). Please fill out the appropriate form and mail it, along with all other pertinent information to NDEP at the address indicated.

        Applies to:
